The BEA 2016 Highlight Reel

I collected some of the social media highlights of my Book Expo 2016 experience on Storify and thought I’d share them here as well. If you’re not seeing the embedded story in your feed reader, please click on through to the blog!

But first, shout-outs to some of the people who made BEA 2016 Chicago such a great time:

My roommate and blogging BFF Kim (Sophisticated Dorkiness) and our hotel neighbors Candace (Beth Fish Reads) and Sheila (Book Journey): It was the BEST to share breakfasts, dinners, walkabouts, and book talk with three of my closest, oldest (in blog years, that is) friends!

Michelle (That’s What She Read): I was SO excited to meet my fellow Armchair BEA co-founder and book-blogging accountant face-to-face for the first time.

It’s always a highlight re-connect with BEA regulars like Michelle’s roommate Jenn (Jenn’s Bookshelves), Gayle (Everyday I Write the Book), and Kerry (Entomology of a Bookworm).

And thanks to BEA’s change of venue this year, I met Melissa (Scuffed Slippers and Wormy Books) and the “Commuter Crew” – Katie (Words for Worms), Julie (JulzReads), Marisa (The Daily Dosage) and Stacey (Unruly Reader), attending for the first (or second) time ever.

I know I must be forgetting some people, so here’s a big virtual wave to everyone!

It Came from Chicago: BEA Books, 2016 Edition! [Show and Tell Sunday]

It Came from Chicago: BEA Books, 2016 Edition! [Show and Tell Sunday]

I posted some takeaways from Book Expo America 2016 last week, and I have additional impressions and memories I’d like to share with you. I created a Storify “Highlight Reel” but I haven’t been able to flesh it out as I’d like for reasons I’ll get into in a minute. That said, I know you’re probably most interested the books, and after a week on the road from Chicago, BEA 2016’s box of spoils arrived on […]

BEA 2016: 10 Takeaways (That Aren’t Books)

BEA 2016: 10 Takeaways (That Aren’t Books)

photo credit: Kim Ukura My thirty-pound box of books from Book Expo America 2016 shipped out from Chicago yesterday and is scheduled to be delivered on Friday, so I’ll be able to talk more about them next week. In the meantime, I’d like to share some takeaways, discoveries, and lessons from #BEA16. It’s good to go into BEA excited about at least a few of the books that will be getting buzz there. I was […]

4 Lessons From a 4th-Timer: Ready for #BEA2016

4 Lessons From a 4th-Timer: Ready for #BEA2016

Next week, I’ll be attending Book Expo America for the fourth time (and for the first time somewhere other than New York City). Despite feeling un-ready this time for various reasons–some directly related to the event, and some not terribly pertinent to it at all–I’m excited to go again after missing it last year, and I like feeling that I’m approaching it with the mindset of a veteran. I understand that the change in venue […]

5 Ways I’m Getting Ready for #BEA2016

5 Ways I’m Getting Ready for #BEA2016

I made a list of things to do to address my lack of preparation for Book Expo America next week. I’m not sure how far I’ll get with any of them, frankly. Work is hectic this week; we’re making a quick trip down the coast to see my mother-in-law this weekend for Mother’s Day; practical matters like laundry and packing will need to be priorities on Monday; and my flight leaves for Chicago at 7:30 […]

6 Reasons I’m Not Ready for #BEA2016

6 Reasons I’m Not Ready for #BEA2016

Right about this time next week, I’ll be on my way to Chicago for Book Expo America 2016, and I am feeling severely under-prepared! I’ve taken care of the things that had to be done well in advance–I have the plane tickets, the hotel room, and the roommate–but not much else, and I’m not confident of my ability to get much prepping done in the time that remains. My Top 6 Reasons I’m Not Ready for […]

[Show-and-Tell Sunday] When Randomness Rules

[Show-and-Tell Sunday] When Randomness Rules

My husband took this picture of his car thermometer when he arrived at work this past Tuesday. The effects of a chilly, rainy weekend were lingering here in Southern California. Yesterday morning I walked the dog in sunshine and warm breezes. The high temperature was forecast to top 70°, and today and tomorrow are supposed to be even warmer. If I could pack this up and send it off to share with those of you buried […]
