Event Annoucement: I can’t participate this time, unfortunately, since I’ll need to be packing for vacation that weekend, but if you’ve got the time, you’ll find it well worth it to join in Bloggiesta #3, scheduled for June 11-13! If Bloggiesta is new to you, here’s what it’s all about: In short, itβs a blogging marathon. A opportunity to cross those nagging items off of your to-do list and improve your blog while in the […]

Sunday Salon 5/23: “Deep breath before (A)BEA” edition
The blog has been created. The posting themes have been chosen and announced. The giveaways are in the works, and the Twitter-party planning is ON. This Tuesday, Armchair BEA will be ready to roll! If you’re not going to be in New York City this week partaking of Book Expo America and the Book Blogger Convention, you’re invited to join your fellow book bloggers (130 and counting!) in this online book-based get-together! I’m amazed by […]
Week-End Review goes to the Movies (& comes back with some links)
Last Weekend (movie) Reviews: Twofer at the Theater Iron Man 2Action/Drama, 2010Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth PaltrowDirector: Jon Favreau While “origin stories” are interesting, I’ve found that when it comes to certain movie franchises, I like the sequels more. We know how the hero became who he (or she) is, and now we can just watch them do their thing. This is especially gratifying when the hero is facing a strong and equally intriguing nemesis […]
Week-End Review 5/14: “Just For the Pun of It” Edition
Scroll on down past the links for the Silliness of the Week! It shouldn’t take you too long to get there, since I’m a little light on linkage this Friday. It happens when I get behind on my blog-reading, which has definitely been the case this week (and it may be next week as well)! Posting in general may be lighter than usual next week, period, since I’ll be focused on preparing posts and doing […]
Sunday Salon: Have you heard about *Armchair BEA*? No? Then read on!
Despite how it might feel if you read a lot of book blogs, not everyone is going to BEA and/or the Book Blogger Convention later this month – and shouldn’t those of us who are staying home get to have some fun too? As several of us were on the beloved/dreaded Twitter a few days ago lamenting our BEA-outsider status, we realized we could put a positive spin on the situation instead. We might not […]
Week-End Review: a non-automated response to links of the week!
Would you consider auto-responding to blog comments? Sharing this post from Blogher.com sparked a brief Twitter conversation with Dawn (links to my “shared items” from Google Reader are automatically tweeted): TooFondOfBooks: @florinda_3rs interesting article abt auto-responders. I think non-bloggers might feel invaded, less likely to visit/comment again (IMO) what do YOU think of it? florinda_3rs: @TooFondOfBooks Part of me likes it, part of me might be unnerved if I got one. I think I prefer […]
Sunday Salon 5/2: The “weekend after the Festival” edition
Question of the Week: Does the publisher know you’ve reviewed that? Do you share links to your reviews with the publishers who provided the books? I usually don’t, and I’m wondering whether I should start doing it. When I first started receiving review copies, I usually did try to e-mail the publicist who made the book available to me and let her know when I’d posted the review…if I remembered. Things have changed over the […]
Week-End Review – FoB Hangover edition
I missed the tweet originally, but my friend Mike fixed that situation with a DM: Mjfrig: Pamie linked to your blog. You’re famous! π Wait, what? A quick Twitter search turned up what he was talking about: pamelaribon: Photographic proof I was at Nerd Fest. (And this girl does have a name like a beautiful nemesis.) http://tinyurl.com/34tu5st #LATFOB Never underestimate the power of the linkage, folks – or of Twitter, for that matter. Oh, and […]
Sunday Salon 4/25: NOT the FoB Report
Yes, I went yesterday. No, I haven’t had time to write up my experiences yet – I’m planning to have that post (with pictures) up on Tuesday. It’s still going on today, so if you’re a Southern California bibliophile and you haven’t gotten over to UCLA for the Festival of Books yet, what are you waiting for? The weather is great, and admission is free (but parking is $10), so head over there! BOOKKEEPING: The […]
Week-End Review – with bonus Movie Review!
I couldn’t come up with a Question of the Week this week, so I thought I’d tell you about something else we did this past weekend. Mini Movie Review: Date Night We saw Date Night last Sunday (in the afternoon, actually – ). The basic plot was kind of ridiculous, in my opinion. Unless a movie is clearly meant to be make-believe, I’m starting to lose patience with movies that have realistic trappings but premises […]
Week-End Review 4/16: Links and “Question of the Week”!
Question of the Week: Is Facebook becoming the new AOL? I have a pretty limited Facebook presence, but I know plenty of people spend nearly all of their online time there, and it seems to be getting easier to do that. Your friends and family are there, so you can keep in touch with each other via status updates, and comments on those updates can lead to actual conversation (of a sort). You can keep […]
Sunday Salon, post-Readathon and just under the wire!
24-Hour Readathon Final Report: I clocked in for the 24-Hour Readathon just a few minutes after its official start on Saturday, which was 5 AM local time. I read for the better part of two hours, then had an almost five-hour time-out for breakfast with my sister and my Saturday-morning errands. I was back to reading by 12:30 PM, and finished the book I’d had in progress around mid-afternoon. I spent the next two hours […]
