Friday Q&A, on Independence Day

Since I’ve already posted my response for this week’s Tuesday Thingers, I’ll start out with a variation on the Q&A theme this time. Y’all know that I love sharing quizzes. This one assesses my “reading personality:” turns out I have a split one.

 Your Personality: All-Rounder!

Your responses showed you fitting equally into all four reading personalities:

Involved Reader: You don’t just love to read books, you love to read about
books. For you, half the fun of reading is the thrill of the chase –
discovering new books and authors, and discussing your finds with
others.

Exacting Reader: You love books but you rarely have as much time to read as you’d like – so you’re very particular about the books you choose.

Serial Reader: Once you discover a favorite writer you tend to stick with him/her through thick and thin.

Eclectic Reader: You read for entertainment but also to
expand your mind. You’re open to new ideas and new writers, and are not
wedded to a particular genre or limited range of authors.

Head over to BookBrowse and find out your own results – I think mine were totally on-target. Thanks to Melody for the link!

Holidays – Booking Through Thursday (on Friday)

btt button
It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., so let’s keep today’s question simple–What are you reading? Anything special? Any particularly juicy summer reading?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

A short-answer question for a long weekend:

I am about 40 pages away from coming to the end of Then We Came to the End by Joshus Ferris, so look for a review of that here next week. I was planning to read Veil of Roses
by Laura Fitzgerald next, since it’s the selection for our next Book
Club meeting, but since the discussion has been postponed till next
month – and I’ve been told it’s a pretty fast read – I may wait a
little longer. I have two ARCs and another review book
on top of the TBR stack, so I may opt for one of them instead. We don’t
have much planned for the three-day holiday weekend, so I’m hoping for
some good reading time. What about you?

Friday Fill-Ins #79

Those of you with multiple blogs or private blogs…if you could add your link to the Fill-Ins, that would be GREAT!

1. Holidays in the summer are well-timed for relaxing – and it’s nice to get a long weekend without having to use your own vacation time!

2. Chicken, steak, and corn on the cob are my favorite things to grill (although not necessarily all at the same meal! And to be honest, the grill is mostly my husband’s domain.).

3. My thoughts are occupied by what I want to get done – and what I don’t want to do – this weekend!

4. Not having any really BIG plans is what I’m most looking forward to this weekend!

5. My favorite book so far this summer is The Year of Fog, by Michelle Richmond.

6. A relaxed breakfast, coffee, and a good book is the best way to begin a day.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to having the weekend chores done early, tomorrow my plans include making some plans for the day, since I don’t have any yet (they may include some reading and some writing), and Sunday, I want to go to the spa for a facial (and I will – it’s already booked), and then maybe do some “fun” shopping!

What are you reading right now, and what’s happening on Page 123?
  1. Pick up the nearest book, and open it to page 123.
  2. Find the fifth sentence, and post the next three sentences.

I’ve been carrying Veil of Roses around for a few days in case the time came to get started on it. Here goes:

It sounds so bold. Eva has no need for taking this English class. She speaks English as well as she ever will.

OK, this actually needs the next sentence too: Like a sailor.

Evidently, Eva’s picked up a pretty colorful vocabulary. Well, they say the curse words are usually the first ones you learn in any foreign language.

**** Happy Fourth of July, USA – enjoy your holiday weekend! *****

  1. We don’t have any big plans this weekend either. Just dinner out to celebrate our anniversary. 🙂
    Have a good one.

  2. I’m an all-rounder too. 🙂

I don’t have much planned for the holiday either. We may take in a movie, but other than that nothing special. I just want to relax this weekend–it’s been such a busy week.

I hope you have a good weekend, Florinda. Happy Independence Day.

  3. Tanabata – Happy anniversary! As a Canadian in Japan, I don’t suppose this is a holiday weekend for you.

Literary Feline – We were thinking about a movie too; we might see Indiana Jones again. We’ll see what happens. Today I have to get some cleaning done once I finish responding to comments :-).

Have a great weekend too, Wendy!

  4. I’m an “Eclectic Reader”. According to your quiz, I mean, which was way up near the top-ish part of this wonderfully long, newsy post. You are a blogging QUEEN, and my hat is definitely off to you! 🙂

  5. Almostgotit – My secret is preparation – or being ridiculously anal, take your pick. I’m not always timely with my post topics, since I draft them ahead. I like having almost a week’s worth ready to post at any given time.

And if you think this was long, have you checked out the road-trip posts?

Always nice to see you around here – thanks for stopping by!

  6. No, it’s not a national holiday here but we did both manage to have Monday off, so it’s our own little holiday. 🙂
