I keep thinking of 2017 as The Year That Disappeared. To be honest, though, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. It was a year that mostly disappeared from the blog (18 posts in 365 days!), but some of it’s on Instagram. On a personal level, the highs points of 2017 were pretty darn high: I stepped up into a new high-level role at work. Paul and I spent 12 amazing days in Italy. We appreciated […]

Getting in Gear for a New Year!
Turn the key. No response from the engine. — Dead battery? Probably. This baby’s been sitting idle for quite awhile. Do we still have jumper cables or should I call Triple A? …OK, it’s charging, but it may be a little while before we can actually go anywhere. This is post #2500 on The 3 R’s Blog. (Post #2499 went up on August 8, 2017. Post #2500 is the first one I’m writing on the […]
While I Wasn’t Blogging: A Recap #dontcallitacomeback
Four months is a long time for a blogger not to blog. In my case, it was absolutely one of those “life got in the way” intervals in a blogger’s life. True confession: Sometimes it felt liberating just to do things without mentally narrating or critiquing them in preparation for a blog post. That said, here’s a brief accounting of some of what I did while I wasn’t blogging. While I Wasn’t Blogging… I worked. […]
Currently: And Four Months Later… #dontcallitacomeback
Hey there! Remember me? I blogged here for ten years. Back in March, I put up a tenth-anniversary post. And then I did a disappearing act. I suggested something like that might happen when I took on a new role at work almost six months ago, but I honestly didn’t think it would be to this extent! As of last week, that new role is no longer “interim,” but official. (Time to update the ol’ LinkedIn […]
10 YEARS of The 3 Rs Blog! [Currently] #Blogiversary
THE 3 R’s BLOG turned ten years old on March 16th! I missed posting that day, but I couldn’t let that milestone go by with no comment whatsoever. When I started this thing, all I intended to do was set up a place to record my thoughts about the books I read. By early 2007, more and more websites were incorporating, or morphing into, blogs. It looked easy enough to start one, and a reading journal […]
Reading, ‘Riting, Changing [Currently]
I’m Moving On Up! (To the Office Next Door) Some of you may have already seen this on social media, but I had some big news last week: After nearly 14 years as Controller with Aviva Family and Children’s Services, I’m excited to share the news that I am moving up into the role of Chief Financial Officer as of February 20! I’ll officially start as Interim CFO, transitioning into my new responsibilities as I […]
I See Movies: ROGUE ONE, LA LA LAND, MOANA
Since my One Word for 2017 is SEE, I thought I’d tell you about a few movies I went to SEE during the holidays. Rogue One As of this writing, I have seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story four times in three weeks. I’ve seen it in four different theaters, with four different (but sometimes overlapping) groups of people. I’m probably done seeing it in theaters now, but you never know. Rogue One is […]
One Word and First Book 2017: Happy New Year!
First Things First: First Book of the Year! My friend Sheila is hosting her First Book of the Year event today at Book Journey. “The First Book is a book that maybe you have been wanting to read for a while but have not had time for, a coveted book, an old favorite re-read – whatever you want. The point is that this is the book that will kick off the year for you. What […]
The Last Blog Post of 2016
2016 was my first year blogging on self-hosted WordPress and my all-time worst year of blogging output. I’ve barely cracked 100 posts, and I am officially declaring this one my Last Blog Post of 2016. After nearly ten years of doing this, I don’t feel a need to make excuses or apologies for inconsistency or offer promises to do better. I’m just grateful if you show up when I do! 2016: The Leap Year That […]
Currently: Trying to Get Things DONE
When Everything On Your List is “In Progress” Currently, I feel like so many things in my life are in a state of partial completion. Surprisingly, compared to some years, we’re a little ahead on our holiday preparations. The gift shopping is almost finished and most of what we’re giving has been wrapped. Paul put up the Christmas tree last weekend, but we didn’t decorate it. (It’s pre-lighted, at least, so it hasn’t been sitting in the […]
Thankful for a Long Weekend [Show and Tell Sunday]
My agency doesn’t give a holiday for the day after Thanksgiving, but everyone in my department took Friday off. I’m thankful for a long weekend and wishing it could be even longer! Paul and I had Thanksgiving Day to ourselves. The kitchen stayed quiet and we went to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner. I had the Thanksgiving Day special and my husband–no fan of turkey–ate filet mignon. We both got just what we […]
The Biggest Disappointment of This Election
If I said that the biggest disappointment of the 2016 Presidential election was NOT the outcome, I don’t think you’d think I meant it. So yes, let’s stipulate that for those of us who are disappointed by the outcome, that’s the biggie. The disappointment is compounded by the fact that Hillary Clinton may have received close to 200,000 400,000* more votes than Donald Trump. (Or maybe more than 1.000.000*.) But they didn’t come from the right […]
