Week-End Review: Links from all over, plus Bloggiesta 2.0!

Announcement: Bloggiesta 2.0 Begins!

Bloggiesta: Pedro

Bloggiesta kicks off this morning! Participants will be spending time during the next three days tackling those nagging blog-housekeeping tasks that we have so much trouble getting around to doing – and encouraging each other along the way! If you need some ideas about what to work on, the challenge announcement post at Maw Books has lots of suggestions; there’s no minimum time commitment required, but Natasha suggests putting enough into it to make it feel like a challenge, whatever that means for you. You can spread your Bloggiesta time across the weekend, a bit at a time, or clear your calendar and plunge right in – whatever works!

I accomplished a fair amount during the first Bloggiesta last June, and signed up for this round right away, but I think my participation will be more limited this time. This happens to be the first weekend my husband and I have had to ourselves since the week before Thanksgiving, and we have some plans for it! At the same time, I don’t want to bail on Bloggiesta entirely, so I’m compromising by keeping my to-do list pretty small:

  • Complete drafts of two posts for the LA Moms Blog to meet my commitment for January
  • Create templates for my upcoming book-review posts (including 3 blog tours and a couple of challenge books)
  • Trim my Google Reader subscriptions, checking the Trends for rarely-read, dormant, and duplicate feeds
  • Review my blog widgets for items to be updated
  • Organize my book review listing alphabetically (thanks to Molly for reminding me I’ve been meaning to do this!)
  • Draft announcements and create buttons for upcoming reading projects

I’ll keep an eye on the mini-challenges for other ideas, but these are my top five priorities for the weekend. I’ll let you know on Monday how it all turns out. Are you joining the Bloggiesta fun, too?

Dispatches: Links of the Week

So much for starting out the year with “out with the old, in with the new:” superstition says not to clean or get rid of anything on January 1 (?). Somewhat related: achievable New Year’s resolutions
I lived in the South long enough that I still self-identify as a Southerner at times – enough that much of this “Southern women’s primer” sounds right on target to me
They really aren’t growing up as fast as we sometimes think they are; but once they can read, you might want to think twice about the reading material you keep around the house. Somewhat related: is it time to protect your kids from your blog?

PSA of the week: Your Sony e-reader and your Mac may not play nicely together

I don’t usually link back to my own posts from earlier in the week here, but based on the comments, my review of the movie Up in the Air has convinced a few people they need to see it! (Did it work on you?)

Links galore: 2009’s favorite posts from across the Silicon Valley Moms Group member blogs (including one of my own from the LA Moms Blog)

Friday Fill-ins #158

I haven’t done these for a while, but since this week’s prompts were inspired by Beatles lyrics, I couldn’t pass it up!

1. There are places that you REALLY shouldn’t go alone, especially after dark.
2. A strong sea breeze will certainly blow those clouds away.
3. Standing in the middle of the supermarket and unable to find my shopping list, I racked my brain to remember what I’d come to buy.
4. I ate my lunch today, oh boy.
5. He went out tiger hunting, but the tiger found him first.
6. I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in and stops my mind from wandering. (I had to use an actual Beatles lyric at some point.)
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to being at home with my just my husband (and my dog), tomorrow my plans include some errands, including shopping for a car (!) and Sunday, I want to tackle that Bloggiesta to-do list I made at the beginning of this post!

Well, if you’re not Bloggiesta-ing, what are you doing this weekend?

  1. Very realistic goals! I didn't make any list for myself but I'm getting even more great ideas from everybody's lists. Have a great weekend with your husband!

  2. Care – Same to you! It's such a good excuse to get projects done :-).

Kathy (Bermudaonion) – Thanks. We'll see how it goes. I REALLY need to get the writing done, but I've started on some of the smaller items first.

Natasha (Maw Books) – Thanks! I didn't want to be overly ambitious, but I would like to get a few tasks accomplished. Bloggiesta is such a good time – thanks for hosting it again!

  3. Florinda, I LOVED the Primer! Even tho I'm a yankee through and through, I've spent enough time down south to get it 🙂 Glad the Beatles inspired you to play!~

  4. No worries, Florinda 🙂 I've been very bad at visiting folks lately … health issues and other blechy stuff. Is that a word? LOL!
