This is a variation on the iPod Random Ten that gives the results a little bit of structure, and I thought I’d try it this way for a change. As happens so often around here, it comes via Literary Feline.
If your life were a soundtrack, what would the music be?
Here’s how it works:
1. open your library (iTunes, winamp, media player, iPod)
2. put it on shuffle
3. press play
4. for every section, type the song that’s playing
5. next section — press the next button
6. don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool
Opening Credits: “Hello Again,” The Cars
Waking Up: “Lubbock or Leave It,” Dixie Chicks (A pretty good wake-up call, as these things go)
First Day At School: “Maureen,” Fountains of Wayne (Maybe that was the first person you met there? I think I knew a couple of Maureens in high school…)
Falling In Love: “Road to Nowhere,” Talking Heads (Yeah, sometimes that’s where you end up…)
Breaking Up: “Denise,” Fountains of Wayne (Started going out with her after Maureen, or what?)
Prom: “Firecracker,” Ryan Adams (Come to think of it, those probably do get snuck into quite a few proms…)
Life’s Okay: “If I Should Fall Behind,” Bruce Springsteen (This actually would have been one of my alternate picks for our wedding song if we hadn’t decided on the one we did so quickly)
Mental Breakdown: “I’m a Woman,” Melinda Doolittle (OK, I got nothin’.)
Driving: “Pencil-Thin Mustache,” Jimmy Buffett (I spent my first few years with a driver’s license in Florida. Jimmy was definitely there.)
Flashback: “I Wanna Be Like You,” Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Getting Back Together: “Jesus on a Greyhound,” Shelby Lynne (Again, I got nothin’…)
Wedding: “Belief,” John Mayer (Seems to me that it’s a prerequisite for marriage…)
Birth Of Child: “1963,” Rachael Yamagata (Lots of children were born that year. The Baby Boom wasn’t officially over till 1964.)
Final Battle: “I Lost on ‘Jeopardy,'” “Weird Al” Yankovic (Interesting euphemism!)
Death Scene: “Reason Why,” Rachael Yamagata
End Credits: “When the Truth Comes Out,” from the muscial episode of Scrubs
I’m so going to do this just as soon as I get a second! I have a really odd playlist on my Mp3 player rock, country, soundtracks, Disney, and oldies! This is going to be fun!
What fun! It’s always interesting to see what songs appear where. 🙂
This was fun! I think I’ll do it on a recurring basis as a change from my iPod Random Ten listings.
