I’ve come across two very different versions of the “Five Things” meme recently, so I’ve decided to combine them in one post. The first group comes via Literary Feline:
5 Things I was doing 10 years ago:
1. Planning the first Christmas in our new house.
2. Looking for a new job.
3. Training new people at the job I already had.
4. Hoping for snow.
5. Reading.
5 Things on my T0-Do List today:
1. Get the November cash-receipts entries finished.
2. Start on balance-sheet account reconciliations.
3. Meet with my manager and the new auditors.
4. Get my hair cut and colored.
5. Go to Target.
5 Things I would do if I were a millionaire:
1. Buy a house with a three-car garage, and space for both a media room and a library. (Wait a minute..I live in Southern California. There goes the whole million right there!)
2. Get my husband a new car and a motorcycle.
3. Invest.
4. Travel.
5. Spend much more time writing.
5 Things I’ll never wear again (or have never worn):
1. Platform shoes
2. Anything in a size 3
3. Shoulder pads
4. Pigtails
5. A school uniform
5 Favorite Toys:
1. My dog
2. My iPod
3. Books
4. My camera
5. A Magic 8 Ball
And another five, via Pam at Here, There, and Everywhere (one of my very favorite Beatles songs, as if that has anything to do with anything) – yes, it’s this Pam – whose answers were much more creative than mine are. I was tired when I wrote this – excuse me if my thoughts are lame.
Five Things I Just Don’t Get:
1. Drivers who speed up on the shoulder to get ahead of you instead of merging in behind you
2. Drivers who use their horns more than their turn signals
3. Overscheduling, and then wondering why you’re so tired and don’t have time for anything
4. Financial illiteracy
5. Not checking the traffic reports before you leave the house
Five Things, Other Than Money, I Wish I Had More Of:
1. Books
2. Time to read those books
3. Patience
4. Optimism
5. Height (another 6 inches or so would be just fine – that would get me all the way to 5’2″)
Five Least Favorite Words or Phrases:
1. “Flo” (as in, don’t even think about calling me that!)
2. “Oh, I forgot to tell you…”
3. “You make me feel tall!”
4. I don’t think I can come up with 5.
5. I’m stopping with 3.
Five Famous People Iβve Spoken With In Person:
I have to abstain from this one, since it’s a grand total of zero. And I really do live in Southern California, I swear! (But I was there when my sister exchanged a few words with Heather Locklear at the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk a few years ago – does that count? Didn’t think so.)
Five Things I Do Nearly Daily That I Donβt Enjoy:
1. Drive to work
2. Drive home from work (the “driving” part, not the “home” part, is the issue)
3. Sit in traffic both ways
4. Get up at 4:30 in the morning
5. Fall asleep after reading half a page of my book
Five Things I Wish I Had the Chance To Do More Often:
1. Write
2. Travel
3. Eat Southern cooking
4. Bake
5. Spend time with my extended family
Five Things I Have Actually Done That Sound Like Lies:
1. I worked at a zoo. I know when things get crazy, many people describe their workplace as a zoo – but seriously, mine really was!
2. I spent four years on a Ivy League campus. (I went as a student spouse – my ex-husband did his graduate work for his Ph.D. in chemistry at Cornell.)
3. I’ve worn two different shoes to work (same shoe, really, just in two different colors).
4. I gave up chocolate for a year during high school. (But since it didn’t seem like it made any difference in the amount of zits I got, I gave up giving it up.)
5. I worked for the organization that oversees competitive bridge – yes, the card game. Bridge tournaments and clubs. The hard thing to believe about this one is that such an organization even exists.
Please feel free to join in on any or all of the “fives!” If you do, please leave me a comment so I’ll be sure to go and see what you had to say.
I played along with this one!! Have a GREAT day!
Jennifer π
Jennifer – Thanks! I found the second set a little more challenging than the first, and I’ll look forward to seeing your answers.
I’ll make sure I never call you “Flo.” I promise. What a list! Actually, two lists!
I love your parenthetical statement under how you’d spend your money if you were a millionaire. So true!
Short jokes or comments. Ugh. I admit though that my favorite line to use when someone asks me how tall someone is happens to be “taller than me.”
You should attend the L.A. Times Festival of Books this spring and then you can meet some famous people. My kind of famous people anyway. π
Your responses were fun to read, Florinda! A great way to unwind on a Thursday evening. π Thank you.
Patois – Do you remember the sitcom Alice? The character “Flo” from that show is why I won’t let anyone tag me with that nickname.
Literary Feline – I can’t believe I didn’t mention short jokes! The ones that really bug me are the people – usually women – who are barely 5 feet themselves and tell me that I make them feel tall. I do like your “taller than me” response, though.
I’ve been to the Festival of Books for the last two years, and I certainly hope to go again next spring! If you go, maybe we’ll run into each other. π
I loved your responses to both the 5’s! Oh, and you made me remember that I wore two different shoes to work once two – a black and (very) dark blue pump of the same style. I now avoid that by giving up the “standard professional” shoe look altogether in favor of clunky boots that can’t possibly be mistaken for each other : ).
Pam – That was the same color combination that screwed me up with the shoes. I have since learned three things – don’t just throw my shoes aimlessly on the closet floor; if I have the same shoes in more than one color, keep them AWAY from each other; and turn on the light in the closet! π
I hope you’re still planning to do the other set of “fives” – I’ll be watching for that post!
