Week-End Review: Recommended Reading

I won’t be taking up too much of your time this Friday…but since I’m doing NaBloPoMo, you won’t get a break from me tomorrow, so it all evens out!

I’m sure you’ve heard there was an election this week – and no matter how you feel about the way it all turned out, I hope you voted! Julie takes a fairly moderate look at how change begets change, while April’s glad we’re done with campaign ads for a while.

Had enough of talking about politics for a while? Maybe you’d rather avoid talking about religion instead…

But whatever you decide to talk about, at least try to be polite about it:

Convenience Store | North Battleford, SK, Canada

(I have psoriasis, a hereditary condition which leaves me with large red patches on my scalp. This occurs while I am waiting in line at a convenience store with a woman standing behind me.)

Customer: “What’s wrong with you?”
Me: “I beg your pardon?”
Customer: “Those ugly blotches all over your head. What do you have?”
Me: “Oh, it’s a highly contagious flesh eating disease. Very painful.”
Customer: “Oh my gosh! Really? How contagious is it?”
Me: “Well, you probably already have it.”
Customer: *rushes out of the store in a panic*

I seem to be writing quite a bit about why I’m not writing a novel during National Novel Writing Month! First it was at TheSmartlyLA, and then a variation on the theme was chosen as a featured member post on BlogHer.com. (And I’m planning to write some more about it here in this week’s Sunday Salon. You have been warned.) Whether you’re NaNoWriMo’ing or not, have you ever considered what characteristics might be found in the DNA of a writer?

And since it’s about time to start thinking about your Christmas shopping (seriously!), Pam has produced the Bookalicio.us Holiday Gift Guide, with suggestions for a wide range of readers.

And that brings us to the Blogthings Quiz of the Week:

You Are a Practical Gift Giver

Your gifts are useful, appropriate, and custom tailored to each person.

In your opinion, the best gifts are gifts that someone will actually use.

Your gifts may not be the most glamorous, but they are always appreciated.

Blogthings: A Fine Line Between Insight and Stupidity

I usually am, actually. What about you?

Give yourself an extra hour of sleep this weekend – don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night!
