Readathon Update #3: The Games are ON!

Current local time: 6:30 PM PST

Estimated total time spent reading since 5 AM: 9.5 hours.

Total Pages read: 652 (2 books)

I don’t usually track that, but it seems appropriate to the occasion.

Books completed: Love the One You’re With, by Emily Giffin
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

What now?

  • Return visits from cheerleaders and visit a few other Read-a-thon participants at their blogs
  • Make notes for review of The Hunger Games
  • Walk the dog
  • See about something to eat for dinner
  • Get back to reading again in about an hour!

What to read next?
Catching Fire  by Suzanne Collins

What’s after that? It depends on whether I can make it through one more book, to be honest!

I feel like I’ve missed out a bit on the social aspects of the Readathon, but I chose to get into it for the reading this time. I don’t know how some folks are managing both reading and cheerleading!

  1. Next time I will definitely be reading instead of cheering/reading. I would love to be reading a little more.Don't worry about the social aspect so much. You're doing great.

  2. I've seen so many bloggers read the Hunger Games and have said it was really good. Now, I'm feeling the pressure and wonder if I should read it, too.

    Two book completed! Great job!

  3. It's astounding, time is fleeting
    Reading takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
    You've almost met the goal

    I remember doing the Read-a-thon
    During those moments when
The blackness would hit me and sleep would be calling
    Let's do the readathon again…
    Let's do the readathon again!

It's just a book in your hand
And then a flip of the page
With your eyes on the words
    You let your mind engage
But it's the cheerleaders that really drive you insane,
    Let's do the readathon again!

Your book is dreamy, or hot and steamy
It stars a banshee, or no one at all
It’s in another dimension, there’s no comprehension
Oh no, there’s none at all
With a bit of a page flip
You're suddenly on a space ship
And nothing can ever be the same
You're strung out on cookies, you sound like a Wookie
    Let's do the readathon again!

Well I was strolling through the bookstore just havin’ a look
When what should I espy but my next book
It shook me up, it took me by surprise
It had a sale tag and Care gave it 5 pies.
It lured me in and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
    Let's do the readathon again!

  4. You are really doing great! Isn't the time flying by? I am starting to feel exhaustion setting in, but blog-hopping is helping. Keep up the good work.

  5. I think you're doing great. I personally think it's impossible to find a balance of reading and socializing during readathon- you pick one or the other. Good work on the reading you did!

  6. Now that it's past midnight and our eyes are drooping lower, it's time for us night owls to get our second wind! So here is a big HOOT from Alabama. Keep on Reading!!!! Just a few more hours to go!!!!

    Go Reading,Go Reading,Go Reading!!!

    the Transcendentalists team!

  7. You've done great! I know what you mean, I admire the people who are able to read and cheer and everything. I'm glad you fun regardless though. And I look forward to your thoughts on The Hunger Games and Catching Fire.

  8. Thanks for all the encouragement along the way, folks! My first Read-a-thon was a lot of fun, thanks to you all!

Vasilly – The cheerleading's been wonderful! But I don't know how to do that without letting the reading slide.

Amy – Short answer? Definitely YES. Combo review of HG and Catching Fire will come soon!

Care – Yes, Softdrink's songs and cheers have made the whole Read-a-thon thing worth it :-D!

Lenore – But now we all have to wait a year for Book 3!

Susan – I think The Demo Tapes are excellent Read-a-thon material – fast and engaging – even though I didn't actually get to them!
