Weekend Review 9-5: Travels around the blogiverse this week

I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I was helping with some behind-the-scenes work to prepare for Book Blogger Appreciation Week. I’m finally done, and now it can be told: I was a member of the awards committee, and served on three of the panels evaluating nominees for the Shortlist. (I was not nominated for any of the awards I judged, and the same is true for all other committee members.) I discovered nearly all of this week’s new blogs while performing my awards-committee duties. If this is what happens before it’s officially BBAW, I shudder to think of what this list will look like in a couple of weeks!

Not many this week, I’m afraid – it was one of those weeks when I just didn’t get to do much surfing. But since you probably have better things to do than sit by the computer on this three-day weekend, maybe it’s just as well that I won’t take up too much of your time with links!

Modern-day letter writing just might look a lot like…blogging

Someone has alerted the media that women are more than mommies – I hope the media notices! (Disclosure: I am also a member of the Ning community More Women mentioned in this post – please go check it out!) Also in connection with “disclosure:” a Blog With Integrity webinar on the the topic is scheduled for next Wednesday – the link will give you info about how to sign up.

Talk about eating your words – Scrabble Cheez-its?

As a dog person, I fully support the Internet Day Without Cats on Wednesday, 9-9-09 (good choice of date, too – less distraction from the release of Beatles Rock Band!)

“Fat Chance,” via Not Always Right
Grocery Store | Ohio, USA
(A grocery store customer points to ‘fat free’ on a gallon of ice cream.)
Customer: “Does that mean I don’t have to pay?”
Me: “No sir, that means that there is no fat in the ice cream.”
Customer: “So just the fat is free?”
Me: “There is no fat, sir.”
Customer: “I don’t want it then.”

TOPIC: Theme songs. Take this little quiz to see how well you know them (I scored in the “you have led a sad, sheltered life and need to get out more” range). Do you have one of your own? Do you want one? That leads to the…

Blogthings Quiz of the Week:
Your Theme Song is “Back in Black” by AC/DC

“Back in black, I hit the sack,
I’ve been too long, I’m glad to be back”

Things tend to get really crazy for you, and sometimes you have to get away from all the chaos.
But each time you stage your comeback, it’s even better than the last!

Somehow, that was NOT the first one that I thought of. I’ve claimed Van Morrison’s “Brown-Eyed Girl” for years.

On the eve of Book Blogger Appreciation Week, discussing book blogging and the meaning of “community”

Also talking about: book-blogger mentoring. Would you want a mentor – or would you like to be one?

What would you NOT do to help promote a book?

Wait till next year for Book Group Expo in San Jose

I’m not sure whether I’ll have a post up on Monday or not…I may be taking a long-weekend break. But even if I don’t see you on Monday, I definitely will be back around on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

  1. Oh my — I have just added two more blogs to my reader because of your post and BBAW hasn't even started yet! I am VERY excited for Septebmer 14 – 18 🙂

  2. Kathy (Bermudaonion) – You could say that. I prefer not to think about it, really, but I can't stop myself!

Molly – BBAW will be dangerous to your Reader, no doubt, but you'll love it :-).

  3. I'm glad to see you like my page enough to subscribe…I appreciate it! I just finished my panel work on one of the categories and found a couple that looked pretty good.

    Anyway…thanks for stopping by!

  4. Thanks so much for all the work you did to make this so much fun for us blogger. Thanks also for adding more blog links for our readers..LOL

    enjoy your weekend

  5. I discovered a few new blogs during my evaluating of blogs too. There are so many good ones out there! I'm glad to see you've discovered C.B. I enjoy his blog very much. I wonder if the Internet Day Without Cats means no one will be able to visit my blog . . . I guess it's good I am planning a simple post that day. I am evidently reasonably well versed when it comes to theme songs. And as for the blogthings quiz, I got the same response you did. I think the key was the introversion. I don't even like AC/DC all that much.

I hope you have a great week, Florinda!

  6. Wendy (Literary Feline) – I'm sure there can be an exception to the Internet Day Without Cats for your blog!

I have to get my husband to take that theme-song quiz. I think he'll do well too :-).

You may be right about the introversion question being the key on the Blogthings quiz. I've met you – an AC/DC theme song would seem to suit you even less than it does me :-D!
