I’ve done this book meme once already, but it’s still quite popular on the blogs, and it can be done more than once, so I’m playing it again, Sam.
You probably know the rules already, but just for the record:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people and post a comment here once you post it to your blog so I can come see!
(Also just for the record, rule #5 was meant to be broken – by me, anyway. But feel free to play along, or play again – and if you’d link here when you do, I’d really appreciate it!)
I’m currently reading Intuition by Allegra Goodman, a novel about scientific research and ethics that I’m finding to be the best book I’ve read so far this year.
“Well done, well done!”
“Aidan,” said Sandy, “how are we gonna keep you down on the farm?”
They surrounded him, while Ann took pictures.
Aidan is a secondary character in the novel, working a day job as a lab tech for a research institute while professionally singing classical music at night. This conversation occurs after he sings the part of Jesus in a performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. The episode has very little to do with the main plotline of the novel, but does play a role in establishing character.
(I unexpectedly got in a lot of reading time on Wednesday when our servers were down at the office for about three hours, so I’ll have a post up reviewing this book soon. Unless it falls apart at the end, I think it’s going to be a very good one.)
