Tall Paul sent me this link yesterday with the note “He will be in your neighborhood!” I’ll explain that in just a second.
BEVERLY HILLS, California (AP) — Jon Stewart will return as host of the Oscars in 2008.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday that Jon Stewart will host the 80th awards show February 24 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
Oscar telecast producer Gil Cates described Stewart as smart, quick and funny. He said Stewart loves movies and is a great guy.
Stewart got mixed reviews when he hosted the 78th annual awards. Some jokes fell flat and some critics expected the political satirist to be edgier.
Stewart joked that he is thrilled to be asked for a second time, because the third time is a charm.
Stewart hosts “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central.
Mixed emotions about this:
I love Jon Stewart. I would stalk Jon Stewart (but I never have, and I don’t, just for the record!). My husband has been made aware that if Jon Stewart ever becomes “available,” his days may be numbered.
I’m a movie buff, and married to an even bigger one, so the Academy Awards show is a party around our house.
But Jon Stewart “in my neighborhood” means that it’s Oscar week, and I work about five blocks from the Kodak Theater (in a job that has nothing to do with “the industry.”) Hollywood Blvd. is closed to general traffic for about 10 days, and the resulting detour and diversion of cars mean that as much as half an hour is spent going less than a mile, from my office to the freeway. I know I bitch about traffic here anyway, but in the later part of February it’s just mind-boggling. Every year I threaten to take vacation during that week, but there’s usually some reason that I can’t (namely auditors). Even knowing that Jon is just down the street doesn’t make that headache any better.
My husband looooves John Stewart. Though probably in not quite the same way you feel it…
A few years back, the Rolling Stones were in town, and I live within a km or so of the stadium where they played.
You know what? It was fun. Kind of like the whole neighbourhood was having a huge party. But then, I wasn’t trying to GET anywhere. I just sat on my porch and listened to the concert!
MaryP – Jon Stewart’s on my short list (no pun intended) of short guys – despite being under 5 feet tall myself, I don’t tend to find men within my height range attractive (Tall Paul is 6’1″, hence the nickname). But JS is a funny and smart guy, which is what really appeals to me.
We have traffic issues near my office regularly. The Oscars are the worst, but other shows at the Kodak, movie premieres at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, new stars installed on the Walk of Fame, film shoots – they all close part of Hollywood Blvd. and re-route the cars. Such is the glamorous life in L.A. :-).
