I’m more than halfway through NaBloPoMo now and that’s motivating me to finish the month, so even though it wasn’t pre-scheduled to go up at 5:30 this morning, there is a post today. (And to make up for being late, this week’s link list is almost twice as long as usual!)
This week’s link roundup is brought to you via OneTab, with thanks to Two Bossy Dames for mentioning that it exists!
Good to Read
- “Guilt serves a powerful social function in terms of policing our behavior” but when it feels excessive, it’s counterproductive–“How to Stop Feeling Guilty: 5 Secrets Backed by Research” (Barking Up the Wrong Tree)
- “You are not going to become a real artist one day. You are a real artist right now.”–Real Artists Have Day Jobs (Sara Benincasa on Medium)
- History Lesson of the Week: “The Statue of Liberty Was Born a Muslim” (The Daily Beast)
Books to Read
Nonfiction November weekly recaps with book recommendations to make your reading list explode:
- Fiction and nonfiction works that work well together (Week 2)
- Nonfiction works in nontraditional formats and forms (Week 3)
Indie booksellers recommend checking out the Litographs Book Club
And this is my favorite bit of bookish news this week: the Harry Potter audiobooks, narrated by Jim Dale, are finally available for download from Audible!
Books to Give
Two publishers have kicked off their annual books-as-gifts campaigns, benefiting the literacy charity FirstBook:
- Penguin Random House will donate one book each time (up to 35,000) the #GiveABook hashtag is used on Twitter and Facebook between November 16 and December 24
- Chronicle Books will donate one book for every online pledge to #GiveBooks
With either hashtag, readers–and kids in need–win!
Happy Friday!
